Friends toasting with beers on the Margot Bar terrace during the tardeo

In Granada there’s a word that has become a plan in itself: tardeo. Going out in the late afternoon, no rush, when the sun eases off and the terraces fill with conversation. If Granada’s nightlife has a best-kept secret, it’s that gap between five and nine when everything happens slower and better.

This is our guide to the tardeo in Pedro Antonio, Granada’s liveliest street, told by the people who live it from behind the bar.

So what exactly is the tardeo?

The tardeo is going out in the afternoon and stretching it as far as the conversation wants. It’s not the warm-up to anything: it’s the plan itself. A terrace, an ice-cold drink or beer, good company and no clock. It fits Granada perfectly, because the city already lives outdoors, and Pedro Antonio is its epicentre.

The best time for the tardeo

If you ask us, the sweet spot is between 5 pm and 9 pm:

  • 5 pm – 7 pm: sunny terraces, the quietest. Ideal for an easy start and grabbing a good table.
  • 7 pm – 9 pm: the buzz rises, more people arrive and the afternoon warms up. The best moment for the deals.

It’s exactly in that window that we run our house deal, every day until 9 pm (except Saturdays): coffee & drink, 2 beers, drinks and mojitos at tardeo prices. It’s all on the menu.

Why the afternoon beats the night

The tardeo has an advantage the veterans know well: same bar, half the crowd and twice the attention. Terraces are enjoyed, not endured; the bar serves you straight away; and you can hear the conversation without shouting. Plus, starting early means the night, if you want it to come, arrives on its own and stress-free.

Where to do tardeo in Pedro Antonio

Calle Pedro Antonio de Alarcón is tardeo in its purest form: terraces, atmosphere and bars for every plan. At Margot we have a terrace facing the comings and goings of the street, deals until nine and the neon sign you already know. We’re at number 85 — look for the sign that asks where will you be tonight?.

To be honest, the tardeo is our favourite part of the day. Come and see why, and if it wins you over, say so on Google: it helps us a lot.

Shall we start in the afternoon?

We'll save you a spot on the terrace at number 85 on Pedro Antonio. And if you enjoy the tardeo with us, let us know on Google.
